Chocolate and bourbon: two things that are rarely, if ever, lacking from our family home. When I ran across a recipe for Bourbon and Chocolate Pecan Pie many years back, I knew it would be a hit. It is now a staple at family holidays and a favorite among many. I personally never loved pecan pie. I was a pumpkin girl, or no pie at all. But it all changed for this one. Bourbon Chocolate Pecan Pie Ingredients: 1 deep-dish pie crust (store bought or make your own!) 2 cups pecan halves ¼ cup butter 2 ounces of unsweetened […]

Or at least all of the children in families that celebrate St Nick. Growing up in a small Wisconsin city, we celebrated St. Nick with candy and small gifts in our stockings one morning in early December. It wasn’t until we were older that we learned that this wasn’t a widely held tradition. So we want to know, where do you celebrate St. Nick Day? Whether you are helping St. Nick with some ideas for December 6th or you […]
Read more →I’m a household of one. I have a nasty evening commute that often makes me just want to go home without stopping for groceries. Yet, I’m still on a tight budget and need to eat. I’ve read post after post on meal planning and cooking for one. The problem is, they aren’t usually realistic to my eating habits or lifestyle. I often get last minute plans or decide I’m too exhausted or starving to spend much time on dinner. So I have come up with a much more realistic way to plan my meals and it has absolutely saved my waist line from […]
Read more →I kept seeing these adorable ornament wreaths in the store, but I couldn’t find one that was quite right. The metallic colors that I normally love got lost with the colors of our house. And the bright, colorful wreaths were just a little much for me. So, I decided to try my hand at making one. I picked up a 12 inch foam wreath base, a canister of 50 standard-size red and white ornaments, a box of small red and white polka dot ornaments, and some mini red and white glitter ornaments. Start by popping the tops off of all the ornaments. Then, begin arranging them […]

It tastes best if they are green and gold. Start by melting 6 tablespoons of butter, 3 tablespoons of light corn syrup and 3/4 cup of brown sugar in the microwave in 30 second increments, stirring in between. In my microwave, it takes about a minute and a half to become a smooth caramel sauce. (I use my Pyrex measuring cup, because it’s the easiest thing to pour out […]

But, with the added fun, comes the extra pressure. Suddenly, first birthday cakes are becoming as elaborate as some wedding cakes! This is said without judgment – my daughter just turned one and she had two parties (one visiting family who live out of state), AND a smash cake photo shoot. Buying separate little cakes for all of those events can really add up! So instead of hiring someone […]

Many people can’t imagine going to Disney without kids, but it can be a very fun – and very different – vacation for adults. Here are some tips to consider when traveling to Disney for an adult vacation: Consider How “Childish” You Want Your Hotel To Be You aren’t going to escape children anywhere in Disney (except Victoria & Alberts), but there are resorts that have a more adult feel. They tend to be some of the nicer, and therefore more expensive resorts […]
